The concept of ‘Survival post a Calamity’ is one many a prepper speaks of and even collects material items for, but is rarely prepared for. Survival is not just about the things you have to change the odds. It is also about the knowledge you possess and the skills you have practiced. Example: Remember those prepper ‘reality’ shows on the idiot box (TV) ? That fat guy who had guns and food and ammo and medicines in the bunker he built in his basement? Yeah, he will lose all his stuff in the first week or two. Why? He was fat. He had no tactical experience or knowledge. He was useless long term, because he did not even know how to garden, fishing was an excuse to get drunk on a boat, and hunting was more about campfires and beer. He had no skills. So … how does one develop survival skills? Look around you. What convenience do you have right now, that you would not have, during a calamity? A garden tractor with a tiller, as an example? What will you do when you have no more gas for it? Will you manufacture some kind of add on kit that will essentially bake the gasses out of wood to create ‘wood gas’ to run that engine? Do you have the welding skills for that? Do you have the fabrication skills to do it? Can you do that, without electricity powered hand tools? For most people, even with awesome houses and super secure locations, with larders full … they will still die off, not from starvation, but from accidents, poor or absent skills, or a lack of ‘common sense’ education that comes from experience. So, get some experience, NOW, while we still have hospitals to fix your most painful of mistakes
